PubCakes began about three years ago, born of a love baking and a passion for drinking a lot of craft beer.  Originally, PubCakes was simply an unlikely and unknown hobby/obsession, until Misty  decided to unleash its awesomeness upon the world.  The journey towards the PubCakes of today has been a slow and arduous one.  Beginning in 2009, these tasty treats were only available by delivery and at the most hip of beer bars. From 2009-2011 Misty was a lone PubCake-making machine, sleeping only hours a day with intermittent bouts of sobriety.  By divine providence (aka craigslist) Misty met Mandi Post and in February 2011 moved into a shared storefront with the best  darn coffee shop in town, Treehouse Coffee Co.  A few months later, Kaitlin moved in and the rest is history.

How it all started...

About Misty (founder):

Misty spent six years in the US Navy as a linguist where she developed an

exceptionally high tolerance for beer.  After her enlistment she moved back

home to San Diego where she learned that quality outranks quantity while

exploring the finest hipster-esque beer bars in North and South Park.

During one of her drunken escapades she realized it’d be fun to put craft beer

into a cake and thus, PubCakes was born.

About Kaitlin (pastry chef):

Another San Diego native, Kaitlin Jaime, developed her love of craft beer at a very early age, her father has always been an advocate home brewer.  Later she began incorporating beer into her cooking, and imbibing as well, as the chef at KnB Wine Cellars where she collaborated with local breweries for beer “dinners” (i.e. party in the kitchen, food for the customers).  She also honed her very unique culinary skills at Red Velvet Wine Bar and Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club.  Kaitlin has been the pastry chef at PubCakes since April 2011 thus forming the dynamic that duo that makes PubCakes the awesome place it is today.

Thanks to Ryan Lamb of Westcoaster for the awesome picture!

And our glasses are only empty because the beer was so good!
